Stainless steel springs are the critical link between your pool safety cover and its anchoring system. These precision-engineered components provide the tension needed to keep your cover taut and secure, ensuring maximum safety and longevity.
Why Stainless Steel Springs?
At SwimCare, we manufacture our springs exclusively from high-grade stainless steel for several critical reasons:
- Superior Corrosion Resistance: Stainless steel withstands constant exposure to pool chemicals, moisture, and varying weather conditions without rusting or degrading.
- Consistent Tension: Maintains spring rate and tension over years of use, ensuring your cover stays properly secured.
- High Strength: 8-gauge stainless steel wire provides exceptional strength while remaining flexible enough for proper function.
- Long Lifespan: Properly maintained stainless steel springs can last 10+ years, far outlasting cheaper alternatives.
Types of S.S Springs We Manufacture
1. S.S Spring (Standard 7.5")
Our most popular spring, measuring 7.5 inches in length. Made from 8-gauge stainless steel wire, this spring provides the perfect balance of strength and flexibility for most pool safety cover applications.
Best for: Standard rectangular and oval pools, concrete decks
2. S.S Spring with Sleeve (7.5")
Same 7.5" spring as above, but includes a protective vinyl sleeve (145mm). The sleeve prevents wear on the cover fabric and extends the life of both the spring and cover.
Best for: High-use pools, areas with abrasive deck surfaces, premium installations
3. S.S Short Spring with Sleeve (6")
Shorter 6-inch spring with protective sleeve, ideal for tight spaces and light-duty applications where space is limited.
Best for: Spa covers, small pools, areas with limited clearance
4. S.S Double Spring with Sleeve (8"-8.5")
Heavy-duty double-loop spring (8-8.5 inches) with protective sleeve. Provides maximum tension for large covers or areas requiring extra holding power.
Best for: Large pools, commercial installations, high-wind areas, heavy-duty covers
Installation Guide
Tools You'll Need:
- • Installation rod (30-inch recommended)
- • Work gloves for hand protection
- • Safety glasses
- • SwimCare springs and sleeves
Attach Spring to Cover Strap
Hook one end of the spring onto the D-ring or buckle attached to your pool cover strap. Ensure the connection is secure.
Use Installation Rod
Insert the installation rod through the free end of the spring. This tool provides leverage and control for the next step.
Stretch and Hook to Anchor
Using the installation rod, carefully stretch the spring and hook it over the deck anchor. The spring should be under tension but not overstretched.
Add Protective Sleeve
Slide the vinyl sleeve over the spring to protect both the spring and cover fabric from wear. Position it to cover the area that contacts the deck.
Verify Tension
Check that all springs have similar tension. The cover should be taut with no sagging areas. Adjust strap length if needed.
Maintenance and Inspection
Regular maintenance ensures your springs continue to perform safely:
- Seasonal Inspection: Check all springs at the beginning and end of pool season for signs of wear, rust, or damage.
- Clean Regularly: Rinse springs with fresh water to remove pool chemicals and debris.
- Check Sleeves: Replace worn or cracked vinyl sleeves to prevent cover damage.
- Test Tension: Springs should still have good rebound. If a spring feels weak or doesn't return to shape, replace it.
When to Replace Springs
Replace springs immediately if you notice:
- • Visible rust or corrosion (though rare with quality stainless steel)
- • Loss of tension or spring rate
- • Deformation or permanent stretching
- • Cracks or breaks in the spring coils
- • Difficulty hooking spring to anchor (indicates weakening)
Never compromise on spring quality. A failed spring can cause your cover to sag, collect water, or even fail completely, creating a safety hazard.
